Tools for Success

This week, Engadi Ministries recognized students within the schools system of Paraíso who completed Engadi’s Scholarship Program for the 2016 school year. Over the years, Engadi has discovered that many children in Paraíso stop attending school altogether due to a lack of basic school supplies that their families cannot afford. In an effort to provide a practical solution to this problem, Engadi has teamed up with students, teachers, and families to help them obtain the necessary materials for success allowing children to continue pursuing the hopes and dreams they have.

Donated supplies were sorted, packaged, and provided to students and parents who had completed several requirements. Families first attended Biblically-based family values classes taught by Engadi’s Director of Discipleship, David Medina, followed by completing a number of hours volunteering within their community creating a brotherhood of parents within the community. In doing so, Engadi partnered with seventy students to help them earn the supplies needed to continue their elementary school education.

Engadi Ministries also partnered with directors, faculty, and teachers within the four elementary schools to allow them to earn supply packages for their classrooms, since teachers are often forced to purchase the majority of necessary supplies by their own means. Sixty-six teachers who voluntarily attended Biblically-based teamwork classes, also taught by David Medina were provided with a package of supplies to help meet their needs within the classroom.

Finally, to close out the day, Nathan and Claudia Hardeman along with Manuel Fajardo, Darlyn Iquic and Ellie Carr presented each of the boys within Engadi’s Derek Program with a package of school supplies at the newly renovated Engadi Transformation Center. Just another way Engadi is seeking to bring hope and brotherhood to Paraíso through the legacy of today’s children.

Thank you to all who donated supplies and made this year’s scholarship program a success in Paraíso.

Derek Group Outing to the Zoo

This weekend, Engadi Ministries had the opportunity to continue working one-on-one and strengthening brotherhood within the boys within the Derek Program. This month, boys partook in a larger quarterly outing from their neighborhood of Paraíso to Guatemala’s national zoo. Boys who had an attendance of at least 75% of their discipleship groups since September, as well as at least 75% of participation in local community service projects were treated to an outing to the zoo where several had never been before. It was a great time for these boys to break away from the monotony of their small community, and spend time fellowshipping with each other.

Through these outings, Engadi staff members are able to focus intensively with each of the boys and continue mentoring them, focusing on building the hopes and dreams of each young man. Just another way Engadi is working to bring #hope and #brotherhood to Paraíso through the next generation of men.

Paraíso Soccer Camp Photos

Engadi Ministries has had the opportunity to reach out to the children of Paraíso this week by hosting a sports camp in their neighborhood. Over fifty children from preschool ages through high school have attended the camp, hearing a Biblical message and improving their soccer skills with the help of coaches Tato and Jose, who have partnered with Engadi this week to reach out to Paraíso. It has been a fantastic week of creating brotherhood and bringing hope through soccer in Paraíso! Above are some highlights from the week so far-

Turning Bottles to Cans-

Trash Cans

The boys involved in #Engadi’s Derek Program are committed to bringing #hope to their neighborhood through serving. Over the past several weeks, the Derek boys scavenged their community for plastic bottles littering the ground that they would be able to repurpose. They worked together turning the collection of bottles into a collection of cans- trash cans, that is.

This past week, the boys painted power poles at a local soccer field in Paraíso and attached the newly fashioned trash cans to the poles. Each boy will be responsible for maintaining the can that he made and emptying it as needed. Through this service, the boys hope to hope to convert the image of a derelict, polluted soccer field to a safer, litter-free common area that families can enjoy together.

Together, the #brotherhood of young men are restoring their community and creating a legacy step by step.

Synergy Conference Visits Paraíso

Today, Engadi had the privilege of hosting a group of visionaries, pastors, mission leaders, and urban developers in Paraíso. We had the opportunity to guide a group of individuals and demonstrate many aspects of community transformation that Engadi is currently involved in such as bringing #hope to the local schools through painting and rejuvenation, and developing a #brotherhood of Mighty Men who can continue the legacy within their community. We also visited several families and community members that Engadi works closely with.

Tomorrow, as the closing day of the 2015 International Synergy Conference, we will be part of a round table discussion further learning about urban development, other urban ministries, and ways we can improve current strategies of community transformation in Paraíso.

All Aboard!

Today, those who have excelled in ‪#‎Engadi‬’s Derek Program over the last month were rewarded with a day away from Paraíso to Guatemala’s Railroad & Train Museum. Most of these boys have rarely ever left the neighborhood they grew up in and educational trips such as these are a way of bringing them ‪#‎hope‬.

Out of the twenty-one young men in the program, fourteen earned a trip to the local museum which none had ever been to before. These boys have served numerous hours within their neighborhood over the past weeks, and have had high attendance ratings in their weekly discipleship groups. The trip was a way for this ‪#‎brotherhood‬ of boys to get away for a day, learn, and celebrate their achievements together. Praise God for their hard work and persistence over the past month!
